Community Heat Decarbonisation

At Net Zero Communities, we are focused on community scale heat decarbonisation, though we recognise that this can be a challenging journey! To support this, we are developing replicable & scalable solutions, and are keen to work with innovative community groups who are ready to lead the transition away from fossil fuel-based heating systems, towards cleaner, more sustainable, and energy independent solutions.

Our focus is on developing practical, place-based heating strategies tailored to the unique challenges that rural and heritage-rich communities often face, including:

• Older stone-built properties with high heat loss

• Low levels of existing insulation and poor energy efficiency

• Limited external space for traditional heat pump systems

• Dispersed or hard-to-reach housing layouts

• Community concerns or scepticism about heat pump technology

We are keen advocates of the practical advantages of community scale transition, which we see as offering:-

• Lower transitional costs for property owners.

• Lower energy costs for communities and consumers.

• Increased grid flexibility to ease constraints, lower upgrade costs and accelerated energy system electrification.
