Empowering Community-Scale Change
Net-Zero Communities

Some of our Community & Commercial Energy Projects
Chipping Community Energy

Client
Chipping Community Energy

Aims
To support community wide, affordable heat decarbonisation.

Our Role
We are providing project support with regards to technical, commercial, stakeholder and planning strategy and we developed and submitted the planning application for the pilot phase of the project.

Challenges
Providing lower cost, low carbon heating for hard-to-heat stone properties, while navigating the complexities of heritage restrictions (such as conservation zones and listed buildings) and environmental designations (e.g. Areas of Outstanding Natural Beauty).

Outcomes
A conceptual design was developed for community-owned ambient borehole networks supplying heat to individually owned ground source heat pumps. A representative cross-section of properties were assessed for heat pump suitability. A trial borehole was successfully installed and tested. Community interest was confirmed for an initial pilot phase, for which planning consent has been secured.

Blenheim Estate Carbon Reduction Project

Client
Bouygues E&S Solutions Ltd and Blenheim Estate.
Aims
To secure the necessary consents for a 6.5MW solar array, a 4km private wire and a 400kW water source heat pump for Blenheim Palace.

Our Role
We advised on the planning strategy for the scheme; conducted an EIA screening request and commissioned specialist reports on heritage, ecology, flood risk, acoustics, and landscape and visual impact; and managed the planning submission for the project.
Challenges
To develop a scheme of this size and complexity within the Blenheim Estate (a Grade 1 listed building and World Heritage Site) without adversely impact the Palace, or its setting, whilst also managing and mitigating wider project impacts arising.

Status
The project is consented and the Weaveley Solar Park is now constructed and operational.
